A dusty comet brushes past the earth, spreading a fanlike tail in its wake.
In 1980, Ludek Pesek produced a collection of spectacular illustrations for the National Geographic book 'Our Universe'. One of these paintings depicts the near-miss of a comet and Earth. He has kindly allowed me to recreate his stunning composition in my version of this close encounter.
